Rumor: Spyro Trilogy remaster in development; Timed-exclusive for PS4

Lillie HarperFeb 16, 2018

Following the success of the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, Activision looks as though they are preparing to brush the dust off another iconic PlayStation trio of games. While no more details were shared on the new content, it brings to mind the level Stormy Ascent, which was only accessible with a GameShark on the original Crash Bandicoot.

Kotaku are reporting that they have heard from multiple sources that a collection of remastered Spyro the Dragon games are in production.

The Spyro the Dragon franchise was created by Ratchet & Clank studio Insomniac Games and originally published by Sony exclusively on PlayStation platforms.

According to sources at Kotaku UK, Activision is now working on bringing all three classic Spyro the Dragon games to PS4 this year, with plans of an official announcement taking place in March. One of Kotaku's sources also stated that the Spyro remaster would launch in September of 2018, lining up with the purple dragon's 20th anniversary. Sane Trilogy, so we could see something similar with Spyro.

The remaster will allegedly work just like the Crash one, with significantly updated graphics, animation, and cut scenes. As showcased by YouTuber "ThornsofSerenity", the Spyro demo code was recognised when input on the Crash Bandicoot Warped menu, linking the two titles.

It's rumoured to be announced as early as next month with a Q3 2018 window in sight.

The N Sane Trilogy crash landed on the PS4 in June, and is rumoured to be a one-year timed exclusive. These games will be coming to the PS4, and potentially other systems, later this year. Also, Activision has not announced any of the remastered ports, but rumors have it that the Xbox release is imminent.

As always, take what you hear here with a grain of salt, as nothing is official until Activision makes it so.
