Google may rebrand struggling Android Wear as 'Wear OS'

GOOGLE APPEARS to be planning to rebrand its wearables operating system Android Wear as Wear OS in a future update.

While the only reasonable explanation for the logo change is that Google wants deeper Assistant integration, we do believe the change to Wear OS is a move by Google to try and de-associate wearables with Android. Apparently, the name change has been reported in version 12.4 of the app, which is part of the new Android P Developer Preview.

There's no official word from Google on the instance; however we believe that Google will announce the new name with the Android P in line on this year's annual- Google I/O conference in May. Until then, we remain skeptical as to what Google may have up its sleeve for your wrist.

Android Wear is pretty much at a standstill right now. One Reddit user speculates that it may be because their smart watches are compatible with not only Android but also iOS platforms.

With Google Lens Android users can now create contacts by just scanning a business card, get a location by identifying a landmark or even search up a particular thing like an actor or something by just scanning their image.

Retooling the Android Wear platform to Wear OS actually makes a lot of sense now, especially as it's not for Android-only compatibility devices anymore. Recently, during CES 2018 Google combined the features of Android Pay and Google Wallet and renamed it as a single feature, Google Pay. Unlike its previous grey display background, the Android wear 2.8 now features a darker background display.

Not so long ago, Google rebranded its Android Pay service to Google Pay in an attempt to homogenize its mobile payment solutions.
